She's still throwing up. For a while there, I thought that she might just be faking it, you know? I thought she was pretending to be pregnant to keep a grip on the relationship.

But you believe she's pregnant now?

Ms. Green:

|
I insisted that we all go to her doctor's appointment and verify her claim. Well, I saw the thing on the ultrasound. It's there. That bitch is in fact pregnant. You know, I should have seen it coming.

Dr. Balis:

Ms. Green:
|
|
She had no chance. No chance at all. So she arranged to be alone with Martin and fucked him until...well, now it's all a big mess.

How does Martin feel about Kathy's pregnancy?

Ms. Green:

He's freaked. I think it was all just too surreal for him. I guess he thought that it might just go away on it's own or something.

But when we went to the OBGYN...well, it just hit him hard, I guess. He was all white and shaking. The doctor even made him sit down and got the nurse to bring him some water. I guess it's not the first time he saw a man lose it at the sight of his own fetus.

And how did you feel?

Ms. Green:

|
I felt a lot of things, Doctor. I was angry...furious. I felt trapped. I felt dizzy. My stomach cramped up. And, more than anything, I wanted that thing dead.

|
Martin told me that he tried to raise the issue of an abortion with Kathy. He told her that he felt too young to be responsible for another life.

And what was Kathy's reaction?

Ms. Green:
|
|
He never actually used the word abortion. He just maneuvered around the issue. I know that she knew what he was doing, but she never let on. Martin said that she just refused to understand his hints. But I think she understood just fine.

So Kathy is not interested in getting an abortion.

|

Ms. Green:

|
No, she's going to extort as much out of this as she can.
|
|

Dr. Balis:

Ms. Green:

I think she wants the power that this baby will bring to her. But no, I don't really think that if she wasn't part of our relationship, she would be going out to get herself knocked up right now.

Perhaps that's true. But she was...is in a relationship. And it might be that she actually considered it serious enough...

This is total manipulation on Kathy's part. And this is not just my opinion either.

Martin is very strongly against this pregnancy, too. But we just can't force her to have an abortion. So we have to carefully figure it out.

If it was up to me, Doctor, I would have thrown out that floozy regardless. But Martin does feel responsible. Although frankly, I don't think he's to blame. She did make representations that she was on birth control. So she lied and cheated her way into this. Martin is completely innocent.

Dr. Balis:

But his innocence aside, we still have a problem.

Dr. Balis:

I'm not denying it, Doctor. I'm really focused on this situation.

So what is your plan? You obviously have one.

It's not that simple. Martin's greatest concern right now is that she will carry his baby to term.

Ms. Green:

Well, she was suicidal...

Anna, if that's at all an issue...

I don't think it is. But what Martin is worried about is that, once the baby is born, Kathy is very likely to abuse it. She was abused as a kid. She ran away from home when she was twelve and lived on the street for a while. Then she lived with her aunt for a few years. But as soon as she could, she left her and came out to San Francisco.

I thought Kathy's parents were dead.

|
She keeps changing her story, but as of today, her mom died of breast cancer before she ran away, and her dad was a certified pedophile and sexually abused her. Now, I'm not saying that any of this is true. But just the fact that she might be making all of this shit up shows just how fucked up she really is. She is clearly not fit to be a mother. Martin is worried that she would purposely hurt his child to get at him.

So legally, Martin has all the rights of a father. Given that he will be in a steady married relationship and with a job, he is a much better candidate for the custody of this kid.

Kathy is a known drug user, without a good job or a place to live--after the baby is born, of course.

I'm just angry at Kathy. It will pass. God, look at the time. I've got to go, Doctor--there's no reason to give that witch a chance at being alone with Martin. He's just not strong enough for that.
