Transcript of Telephone Conversation between Charles Balis, M.D. and Ms. Caren A. Patterson, Monday, October 14, 1996 at 6:15 pm.

Ms. Patterson: Hello, is this Doctor Balis?
Dr. Balis: Yes. Who am I speaking to?
Ms. Patterson: This is Caren Patterson, Anna's friend?
Dr. Balis: Yes Ms. Patterson. What can I do for you?
Ms. Patterson: I am just calling...oh, I don't know if I should be speaking with you.
Dr. Balis: Did something happen to Anna?
Ms. Patterson: Oh no. She is fine. I mean, nothing horrible happened. I mean, nothing horrible happened right now. She is physically fine, I think.
Dr. Balis: Anna is not physically harmed but you are calling to tell me something?
Ms. Patterson: Yes. Anna is right, you are very nice. Someone else might have thought me insane by now.
Dr. Balis: So how can I help you Ms. Patterson?
Ms. Patterson: I spoke with Anna and she told me about some stuff that she's been talking with you about. Oh I feel silly. You probably know everything anyway.
Dr. Balis: Ms. Patterson, I can guarantee that I don't know everything. What's on your mind?
Ms. Patterson: Anna told me that she told you that I and her...well, that we...Anna told me that she said we had sex together. Did she?
Dr. Balis: She might have mentioned something of the kind.
Ms. Patterson: Doctor Balis, please believe me when I tell you that this is just not true. We talked about it sort of like a joke but we never ever did it. It's not what I am into. I like men and I only make love to my boyfriends. And I only had two anyway. I mean boyfriends.
Dr. Balis: Do you think Anna deliberately lied to me?
Ms. Patterson: I don't really know what she told you. But she definitely lied about me and her sleeping together. It never happened.
Dr. Balis: Forgive me for asking, but do you currently have a boyfriend Ms. Patterson?
Ms. Patterson: I'm seeing someone.
Dr. Balis: Does he work for SII?
Ms. Patterson: Yes. He's a videographer at SII. His name is Greg Bears. Why?
Dr. Balis: It's not very important. I like to know the background of all my patients and since Anna is so close to you...
Ms. Patterson: Oh I understand, Doctor. I hope I did the right thing in calling you. I'm really nervous and upset. Please don't tell Anna I called you. Okay?
Dr. Balis: Of course, Ms. Patterson. I won't mention it. Don't worry. And thank you for letting me know.
Ms. Patterson: You knew about it already, right?
Dr. Balis: Ms. Patterson, it was very good of you to care for Anna so much as to call me. Anna has a good friend.
Ms. Patterson: Thank you Doctor.
Dr. Balis: Goodbye Ms. Patterson.
Ms. Patterson: Goodbye Doctor Balis.
