Letter to George Eisenstadt of CalaCare, 7/29/96

July 29, 1996

Mr. George Eisenstadt
CalaCare HMO

Dear Mr. Eisenstadt:

I wish to be as cooperative as I can, but I really can't release transcripts of patient sessions without the permission of the patient.

I spoke with an attorney friend of mine and he told me that the psychotherapist/patient privilege is part of the laws of the State of California. He told me to direct you to California Evidence Code Sections 1010 et seq. which defines the privilege.

Please let me know if there is any way that I can be of assistance to you short of violating both my ethical and legal responsibilities.

Very truly yours,

Charles Balis, M.D.
