If people feel a sense of reality connected to a character, and that they know her well enough to have these discussions, then the writer has done her job well. Of course we're escaping, that's part of what entertainment is about. But we're also interacting, and thinking, and forming opinions, and learning. That's what makes this site so much better than our society's usual entertainments.
