Their attack on me was uncalled for. In my initial post, I only asked for information about a potentially damaging rumor. Many unfounded rumors are found on the Web; I wanted to find out the truth for myself. It seemed reasonable to ask the people who run a site hosted by Earthlink.
In a recent post, Christopher Werby stated:

I am one of your readers and supporters, and have been for over a year. I just wanted some information, and I don't believe I made the initial reqest in a manner that was disrespectful or derisive. I didn't deserve to be insulted, or belittled just for asking a simple question.

Do you respect the reviews of your readers? If this site is really about promoting free speech, shouldn't you also respect the comments of readers and critics? I asked a question about this site's affiliation in what I thought was a respectful manner, and was met by an onslaught of mean-spirited insults.
Scientologists have been known for viciously attacking their critics. The hostile tone of the responses to my initial query leads me to think that maybe I was onto something after all.
